ABOUT DR WILLEM OOSTHUYSEN
Dr Oosthuysen completed his medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Stellenbosch in 2006. In 2018, he became a Fellow of the Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth(SA)). He also obtained his Masters of Medicine (MMed) from Walter Sisulu University in 2019.
Dr Oosthuysen served his internship at Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex and his Community Service at Livingstone Hospital, working in General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. Between 2010 and 2014, he worked as a medical officer in Orthopaedics in various locations such as Pietermaritzburg and Port Elizabeth. From March 2012 to March 2013, Dr Oosthuysen took a break from Orthopaedics and worked as the Chief Medical Officer for International SOS in Accra, Ghana.
He started his Registrar training in Orthopaedic Surgery in October 2014, first at Livingstone Hospital, Port Elizabeth and finishing at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town. After completing his training, he was appointed as a consultant at Livingstone Hospital, where he started the much-needed foot and ankle service. In August 2022, he left Livingstone Hospital to complete a combined foot, ankle, and hip arthroplasty fellowship at the Royal Glasgow Infirmary, in Glasgow, Scotland, before returning to South Africa to start his private practice.
Medicine runs in his family, as Dr Oosthuysen’s father is a Cardio Thoracic Surgeon at Netcare Greenacres and Life St George’s Hospital, and his mother owns a busy GP practice. In his spare time, he enjoys surfing, kitesurfing, rock climbing, enduro, and adventure motorcycling.
